Flight

In this case, I am referring to the flight reaction of a person, rather than actually taking flight.

Commitment Phobia is a bizarre phenomenon to those of us who are not phobic about commitment. A quick Google search brings up 495,000 hits. (Apparently this is a big problem. Ha!)

Wikipedia has this to say. "The commitmentphobic mind sees decisions as permanent, opening the possibility of being caged or trapped forever with no means of escape." Other sites seem to chalk it up to a handful of fears that cause the phobic to run away. Those include but aren't limited to fear of failure, fear of losing ones identity, fear of entrapment, fear of the unknown.

Here is a good article that talks about some of those fears.

And now for the obvious question: Why in the world am I blogging about fear of commitment?

The short answer is that I have a bit of a fear of commitment. I have been offered four promotions at work that I have turned down (fear of change and fear of failure coupled with a complete lack of desire), and after reading some of these articles, I might even be sabotaging my relationships (purposely choosing incompatible partners). HA!

The real answer is that I met the most commitment phobic person I have ever heard of. I mean, any story you have been told about this subject is the sad loser in a race against this person for who can flee the fastest from any kind of commitment (from taking a new job, to planning a date three days in advance). This is serious stuff.

I've decided to keep this person anonymous. It is in the best interest of all involved parties.

HA

Hahaha. I may be partially commitment phobic myself.

That is probably why I have a difficult time making life decisions. Major, future careers, not having any desire to date, etc.

Hmmm. Something to ponder.

I would date, if there was even ONE decent single man here....
