Watching the Equestrian World Cup Finals last night has made me think about life before grad school. I was a pretty decent equestrian, mainly hunters, and some Dressage. I had a couple talented horses at different times but I let them go for many reasons. I had somewhat deluded dreams of becoming a top book editor; I knew the chances of making a great living in the horse industry are poor; I never had enough money to buy a horse that would take me to FEI level.
But watching the horse show has confirmed one thing for sure. I definitely need to return to horseback riding. If not for my health (it is rigorous work) , for my sanity. And, I think I could be content with letting it be a hobby than a way of life.
The picture is of my former horse Eugene. He was a second level Dressage horse. The rider is not me, but the girl who used to lease him for showing purposes.
